Brentside High School Admissions CriteriaBrentside High School

Admissions Policy 2010 Image21

Brentside High School will be participating in the Ealing Coordinated Admissions Scheme. The Governing Body will ensure that the number of pupils admitted in each year group will not inhibit the education of students at the school nor adversely affect the health, safety and security of pupils or staff. Pupils will be admitted to the school according to the order of priority in the oversubscription criteria detailed below.

Over subscription criteria:

1. Looked After Children

2. Having a brother or sister currently attending the school who will be at the school in September 2010. Proof of date of birth of the applicant and his/her brother/sister must be provided to show this entitlement. Sibling refers to brother or sister, half brother or sister, adopted brother or sister, step brother or sister, or the child of the parent / carer’s partner, and in every case, the child should be living in the same family unit at the same address.

3. Exceptional medical grounds or special circumstances relating to the child. Evidence must be provided in written format by a relevant professional detailing how the school can meet the specific needs based on the criteria, e.g. doctor’s letter detailing medical conditions etc.

4. Proximity of the child’s home* to the school measured as a straight line. Proof of address will be required. The distance from the child’s home to Brentside High School is measured by straight line from the front door of the child’s home to the nearest gated entrance which is used by pupils to enter the school grounds. The measuring system is an integral part of the admissions software produced by Tribal Technology Ltd. It uses Ordnance Survey maps and is accurate to 1 metre. In the case of multi occupancy buildings e.g. flats priority will be given to the applicants whose door number is lowest numerically and / or alphabetically, e.g. 11B takes priority over 12A.

5. Waiting Lists. If it is not possible to offer a place to a child immediately, their name will be placed on a waiting list. The criteria for admission will be used to determine the position on the waiting list.

6. If two or more students have equal priority under the criteria random allocation will be used.

* Home is defined as the abode where the child spends the majority of their weekdays during term time.

Admission to Year 12:

Sixth Form places are available for students who fulfil the individual requirement for each subject of the proposed course as set out in the prospectus. Admission to Sixth Form does not guarantee that students will be able to undertake any course of study for which they have expressed a preference. For specific course requirements, please see individual course descriptions in the post 16 prospectus. If you have recently arrived from overseas and have not taken GCSE examinations, we will assess you by other methods to find out the most suitable course for you. In cases of oversubscription the admission criteria one to five of the above criteria for the main school will be applied.
