Who are we?
We are Humanities - Geography, History, Religious Education and Sociology.
What do we do? Our main aim is student success, which is achieved by consistently good quality teaching leading to continuous learning.
How do we do it? We provide interesting and stimulating lessons that give a varied, broad, yet detailed, experience and understanding of humanities. We are well-resourced in classrooms that are pleasant to work in. We use a range of teaching approaches - projects, videos, computers, investigations, structured tasks, visits and "traditional" lessons. Our focus is on acquiring important knowledge and skills that motivate students and help them develop confidence and independence.
We aim to meet the needs of all students and to give each one the opportunity to realise fully her or his potential. Some students are put into a top set based on their demonstrated academic ability. It is assumed that these students will gain A*/A at GCSE. Our results show that this has been achieved.
What do we offer?
-
In Years 7, 8 and 9 all students study History, Geography and Religion within a multi-faith context. Students study each subject in an eight-week module, then move onto another subject.
-
In Year 7 students study: Geography - Exploring Britain, Connections with the World, the Local Area, Rivers and Flooding; History - Grauballe Man - the Romans and Medieval Realms; Religious Education - Religion Here and Now! Students are tested and assessed frequently to monitor their learning and progress.
-
In Years 10 and 11 students take Geography or History or both subjects for GCSE. All students study a short-course GCSE in Religious Education.
